Benji Ries, Stars 14U, Named MVP at U of Michigan Baseball Camp

By Christy Carona 08/31/2017, 6:00pm CDT

Benji Ries was named MVP for Offense out of 175 campers at the University of Michigan Wolverine Baseball Camp held in July 2017.  He went 3 for 3 in live baseball with a game winning 3 run triple to end the final game.  Congrats to Benji on the impressive camp award!

Pictured at the U of M camp are Stars players Danny Orgler, Benji Ries, Tre Benjamin, and Patrick Bartz who will be playing on Coach Jacek Kopacz 's 15U team in 2018.

Eric and Tyler Pecson were selected to the All-Region Team for the Great Lakes Region in the 14U Division. This team is comprised of the best 18 players in our five state region, consisting of IL, IN, MN, IA, & WI. This team will compete at the end of August 2017 at the National Training Center in Cary, North Carolina. Being selected to the All-Region team for USA Baseball's National Team Identification Series (NTIS) and having the opportunity to wear "USA" across the chest is a great honor and achievement.  Eric and Tyler will be playing on the 15U Select team for the Lake County Stars in Summer 2018.

Tre Benjamin, Benji Ries, and Matthew Nuetzmann were teammates earlier this month playing in the Midwest Area Game Day USA All Star Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The teams were made up with blended 14U-16U All Stars from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. Their team went a perfect 4-0 and won the Tournament Championship.

Benji Ries was stellar behind the plate catching complete games in the semi final game and Championship game. He was also constantly on base working walks or getting timely hits.

Tre Benjamin played a lock down centerfield and had several big two out hits the entire tournament. Tre also had several stolen bases and quite a few key RBIs.

Matthew was the winning pitcher in the semi final game and got the walk off RBI single to advance the team to the championship game. In the Championship game he went 3-3 with a two run home, triple, and a single.

On a side note, our Stars parents represented well, too, as Mike Nuetzmann and Wil Benjamin stepped in to coach the team when the scheduled Game Day coach was unavailable.

We could not be more proud of these young men and how they represented the Stars Nation!
