10/18/2020: Letter from Stars President Phil Carona

By Lake County Stars, 10/18/20, 7:15PM CDT

Hello Stars Nation!
Now that teams are formed and things are starting up in full force, I wanted to reach out.

While many other programs did not survive this past year, I am very pleased to say that the Stars are flourishing! We have an all time high of 17 talented teams with many fantastic new families and coaches joining us. Our high school teams will be starting practice at the end of the month and our youth teams should all be signing up for their one on one coach lessons and clinics with Coach Ace, all of which are included in your fees.

A few things I wanted to mention:

  1. We have made many improvements already to our facility: new mats in cages, L-screens, targets, tees, weighted balls, pitching aides just to name a few. We will begin replacing the netting and fixing the roof at the end of this month as well. Please treat STC as your home and clean up after yourselves when you are in there!
  2. Come check out our Players Lounge which is there for all to hangout and enjoy! Special thanks to Upscale Resale, and the Sica and Staver families for your donations. We are looking for some baseball art to hang on the walls, please let us know if you have anything we can use.
  3. As a reminder this year only, we are using the same uniforms as last year, given that last season was short and our uniforms did not get the usual wear and tear. We have accounted for this in your 2021 program fees, so those who don't need new uniforms aren't paying for them. There will still be uniform fitting day(s) in November (more info coming soon) where new families can purchase their uniforms and any current families can supplement any items that no longer fit.
  4. If we owe any teams refunds from tournaments last season, we are sorting through those and they will be processed soon. Along the same lines, referral bonuses to all of you who sent players our way will be passed out in cash in a month or so.
  5. Chris Pacini is planning Stars home field tournaments this summer at the Youth level for all teams to take part in. This is really exciting for all of us! Look for more information on this soon.
  6. Reminder: all youth families have committed to a $200 fundraising requirement. Options and ways to do this will come out soon. 100% of funds raised will go right back into facility costs.
  7. HELP WANTED: We would love to start two new committees- Fundraising/Sponsorship (helping to get business sponsorships and program wide fundraising ideas) and Facilities/Decor (helping us with improvements and beautification of STC) and could use some parent help on both. Please let Cynthia Zarkowsky at know if you can help on either.
  8. As everyone continues to work through COVID-19, just a reminder to follow all safety/wellness protocols used as a standard everywhere before you come to and while you are at STC. Please keep all of us safe a top priority.

We are honored that you have chosen to play with us this year! If there is anything I can do for you, please always reach out! I can not wait to see what the year has in-store for all our teams.
